Welcome to KANINE 2006 (Professional police K-9 Records Software). KANINE 2006 has been designed for K9 Handlers, by K9 handlers and is trusted by State, County, Local and private agencies throughout the United States. WHAT IS NEW IN THIS VERSION?
About the data.. In past versions of KANINE, a single database provided not only the storage location for the data itself, but the complete user interface as well. This made for an easy installation process, but at the same time it made the process of deploying updates difficult at best. KANINE 2006 includes an updated database as well as additional databases for expense records, Daily log records and a new Namebase database that is simply dedicated to storing suspect information. This new version, however, has been separated into two parts; Data and User Interface. What does this mean? For you, the user, it means that, as long as you have the software itself installed on the computer that you are working on, your data can be in any location that is accessible by your computer. By default, your database files are installed to your computer's 'C:/Program Files/CBD Data'. You could however, copy this database folder to an agency server so that it could be shared among many handlers and supervisors, or you could copy your data folder to a USB drive and take your data wherever you go or even to your in car MDT. And don't worry about losing your data, KANINE 2006 contains the functionality, when setup properly, to create exact replicas of your data and send those replicas to whatever location you desire when you exit the software. And, for us as programmers, it means that we can send KANINE 2006 updates to you, without affecting your database data. This new setup allows us to continuously improve on the software that you depend on to keep your K9 records safe. |

Basic
KANINE 2006 Setup. First, lets set up your user accounts. Every person that must gain access to the KANINE software must have a user account. This might include K9 handlers, Supervisors, Trainers and IT personnel. To setup or adjust these accounts go to 'Tools/Settings/User Setup' on the main menu.
Once inside the User Profile form, click the 'Add a User' button and enter all necessary information for the user that you are creating. The 'User name' field contains the name that will be displayed at login. It is recommended that you use your name as you would like it to appear in various places throughout the program. If you are the only user of the software, be sure to set your 'Access level' to that of a Level 2 User. Level 1 users are restricted from accessing certain areas of the software and cannot view or change the User profiles of others. Note: If you leave the password set to the default of '9999', the user will be asked to enter their own unique password on their first login.
Once you have entered the information necessary on the 'User Information' tab, click on the General information tab (shown below). It is recommended that you make the 'Person's name', the same as the 'User name' if the profile is for a K9 handler. Then, fill out whatever additional information that you feel is necessary here.
To complete the 'Primary K-9' field, you will first need to create your K-9 profiles. To do this, click on the 'Manage K-9's' button. This action will take you to the K-9 Profiles form where you can setup all of the K-9's that you or your officers will use. Unlike other K-9 software programs, KANINE 2006 allows for an unlimited number of K-9's to be created within the system at no extra cost.
Once you have create at least one K-9 profile, close the 'K-9 Profiles' form; the 'User Profiles' form should still be open. Now, place your mouse cursor inside the 'Primary K-9 *' field itself. A selection list (shown below) will open at this time, allowing you to select one of the K-9's that you have just created as your primary K-9. Doing this will automatically place your K9's name inside the K-9 field of any new record requiring that a K-9 name be entered, such as a Training or Usage record. This should be done for all K9 handlers that will use the software. Note: If, when clicking in the 'Primary K-9 *' field, the selection list does not open, simply double click inside the field to force it open.
Note: Any field containing an asterisk (*) at the right side of the field's label (such as in the 'Primary K-9 *' field) shown above is filled by a selection list like the one shown above. In general, the information be displayed in the selection list can be altered by the user so that the list displays the information desired by the user. Normally, the selection list can be altered by clicking the 'Edit List Items' button. If this button is not visible, must either be changed from another location (as is the case with the K-9 Profiles, or the list items are standard and cannot be altered. The selection list is displayed by either entering the field with your cursor, or optionally double-clicking inside the text field itself.
Once you have created your User and K-9 profiles, you can begin actually entering records. So, in the easiest of settings, this is all it takes to get started on keeping a complete set of records to record your K9 Unit's Training, Usage, Medical records, Certifications and Expense records.
