The firearms settings manager allows the user to setup firearms course definitions, setup the Qualification requirements list and to assign requirements to individual or groups of employees. The module comes pre-loaded with some standard course types and requirements. You, of course, can alter these course types and requirements as needed to suit your agency. The courses tab is pretty simple. This screen is where you setup course names and the explanation of each. The course names should be the first part of the Firearms settings process that you should modify, if necessary. For instance, your state or agency might have a different course or set of courses that they use for firearms qualifications purposes. This is where you would add those additional courses so that they can be used in the Requirement Setup tab. To add an entry here click the ‘New course’ link. After you have finished modifying entries in this screen, be sure to click the ‘Save’ link to save any changes. The ‘Requirement Setup’ tab allows the user to setup possible requirements that can be assigned to any employee in the next step of this walk through. This tab operates much like the “Courses’ tab does. Again, after adding or editing records on this tab, please be sure to click the save button to commit the changes to the database (save them). Once you have all possible firearms requirement types setup on this tab, you can proceed to assigning required qualification type to your officers.
