Quickly create a partial record to be completed laterEvent MarkerThe Event Marker utility is a new feature that is designed to allow the ability to create a record, marking currently available data, so that the user can go back to the record later and complete it. The reason that this utility was designed is because often, when the K-9 handler is entering records, he/she might be entering the data hours or days after the training or deployment event. This time gap makes it difficult to remember information such as the event time and weather conditions. With just a couple of clicks, the event marker can create a temporary record, automatically marking this information so that it is not forgotten later.Scenario- Here is one method in which the Event Marker can be used. The officer is positioned at a Weigh Scale, observing commercial vehicles that come through the station. He is alerted to a semi, that for one reason or another, shows signs that it might be transporting narcotics. Before the officer removes his K-9 from the vehicle to perform a free air sniff, he selects ‘Mark Event/ Deployment’ on the main KANINE screen. He then selects ‘Narcotics search’ from the selection list and type in ‘DOT station’ for the location. He then hits the enter key and performs his search.Later, after the officer has completed his search and has time to complete the Deployment record, he opens the Deployment screen to find that his record, with much of the important information, has been created for him.Using the Event MarkerThe Event Marker can only be accessed from the main menu. The event Marker button itself is a split type button that either allows the user to click the main body of the button, or select from a drop down listing as shown on the right. If the user clicks the main body of the button, the event marker will open and the user will, at that time, have to select a record type (ie. Training, Deployment, Certification). However, the user can pre-select the record type by clicking the right portion of the event marker button, which will then allow selection of the record type from a drop down list portion of the button. In this case, when the Event Marker opens the selection list (for Usage and Training Types only) will automatically open, allowing the user to choose a session type (ie, Narcotics Search, Apprehension Training, etc). If the type of record selected is a certification, then the entry field will be unlocked to allow for direct typing of a Certification Title. This can be something like :’2010 NSPC Certification’GPS CoordinatesDuring the event creation process, if a GPS TrackPack unit is connected, turned on and has a satellite signal and if the ‘Record GPS location’ check box is checked, the unit will attempt to connect and gather the user’s current latitude and longitude. This process does not currently have any great significance in the current build. Later however, additional functionality will exist which will use these coordinates to show where the user, and K-9 unit as a whole, has the most activity and will plot the information on a map. The gathering of the GPS coordinates is the first action taken by the event marker and does take a few seconds to complete. To skip this process altogether, simply un-check the ‘Record GPS location’ check box.GPS-Auto disable featureIf the Event Marker is set to attempt to gather the GPS coordinates and is unable to do so, the auto connect feature will be disabled until the user turns it back on.GPS-Re-attempting to connect to the GPS unit manuallyIf the event marker was opened and for some reason was unable to connect automatically to the GPS Unit (ie, GPS unit was turned off or disconnected) and the user has rectified the problem and wants to try to reconnect to the unit so that it can gather the GPS location, the user can simply click once on the status label at the lower left side of the screen. This will cause the unit to re-attempt connecting to the unit and gathering the GPS coordinates, if successful.Finalizing the eventAfter you have filled the fields on the event marker as thoroughly as you want to, simply hit the enter key. This action will cause the Event Marker screen to close and will also set in motion a string of actions that will create the requested record for you, though you will not see these actions taking place. When you are ready to complete the remainder of the record, simply go the appropriate record type screen, locate the record (ie. Training Record) and complete the remaining portions of the record.
