Export Manager Overview The KANINE Version 5.0 Export Manager is designed to allow users to work on laptops that are disconnected from any agency networks during their shift and then later, export any entered data to a shared database on the agency server. This functionality allows the user to always have access to their K-9 records and, at the same time, enables supervisors to review all records from all handlers from their desktops and create collective reports using data from all of the K-9 handlers. KANINE 5.0 can facilitate this transfer of data in one of two ways; by either an occasional direct connection to the agency network, or by using a removable drive as a transport medium. What does this mean? The first option would be applicable if your computer was setup to have a connection to your agency’s network either A) all the time, B) When you pull into the parking lot and can connect via wireless Internet to the agency network, or C) When you plug into a network cable in the office that connects you to the agency network. The second (Using a removable drive) can be applicable for any user by plugging in a USB or SD card, transferring the KANINE data to the removable drive via the built in USB Transfer Utility (Main Screen/Tools/USB Transfer Utility). The following help will attempt to familiarize you with the different options available to enable the transfer of data to a server based database.   Introduction The Export process only really relies on two things. Those things are: A) A copy of the ‘CBD Data’ folder must be copied to the server, with full read/write permissions set for anyone who will be accessing the contents of the folder. B) The Export Path must be set in the exporting user’s database. (ie. On the laptop of the user that will be exporting data). Setting your agency up for exporting functionality 1. The first step in setting up a disconnected/ export scenario is to install the KANINE software on remote computers (Laptops). 2. Register the software on the remote computers. (It can be beneficial to allow some time between this step and the next so that the K9 supervisor (or single handler) can have time to modify selection lists in the KANINE software before performing the next step.) 3. Copy the ‘C:\CBD Data’ folder from the K-9 supervisor (or single K-9 handler) laptop to a shared, accessible location on the agency server. IMPORTANT: Be sure to allow full read write permissions on the ‘CBD Data’ folder that is copied to the server. 4. Set the ‘Export Path’ on each exporting computer to point to the K95.mdb file inside of the ‘CBD Data’ folder that you copied to the server. This path can be  set by going to Main screen/Tools/Settings and then clicking on the ‘Export Settings’ tab. All that’s left, is to perform the export.... What does the export do? The export process is, for the most part, a one way transfer. It allows the user to send records to the shared database so that records from all users are in a single database. This allows anyone that connects to the shared database (Ie. Supervisors who have KANINE installed on their desktop computer) to view records entered by all users and print records using data from all all records entered by all K9 handlers. KANINE 5.0 lets you share people names that you and other users have entered One of the processes included in the KANINE 5.0 Export Manager allows the user to selectively export any names entered into the ‘Master Names List’ to the shared Database and import any other names that have been exported by other K-9 handlers. What does this do? It enables each user to select name data that other users have previously entered, so that they do not have to re-enter the person’s information.
